A recap of my Aruba vacation

Updated: Jan 5, 2019

Since joining the working world (over 3 years ago (ahh!)) I have learned to appreciate vacation so much more than I ever used to. Last week, my mom (Karen aka mama fries) took me, my boyfriend (Ben), sister (Amy) and her boyfriend (Conner) to Aruba and we stayed at an all-inclusive hotel (Hotel Riu Palace). It was one of those vacations where you didn’t know what day it was, didn’t feel the need or desire to text folks back home and just really escaped into the island livin’.

Because we stayed at an all-inclusive hotel, food, drinks and activities were all provided. We didn’t have to do much thinking or planning once we got there- much needed brain break! The quality of the food was so-so, but I still fell in love with the buffet. More to come on that in my next blog post. Yep. I have so much passion for the buffet that it will have its own post. Anywho, the drinks were definitely watered down which was a little disappointing, so by the end I learned to stick with cosmo’s and wine. As for the activities- the evening shows were so much fun. I even got on stage with Conner, because why the hell not! The pool and beach were absolutely amazing. Great vibes. Great weather. Great surroundings.

Speaking of the surroundings, there are a four things I loved most about the island of Aruba. 1) When they say it is one happy island, it really is. Everyone we spoke to from there raves about how nice and accepting people truly are who live there. It was refreshing to hear and experience. 2) Unlike other vacations like Mexico, Dominican Republic, etc. you feel safe walking down the streets outside of your hotel. Even though we spent most of our time at the hotel, the times we did venture out I felt completely safe. 3) The weather is absolutely incredible. It was warm and sunny like most beaches, but what set it apart was that it was windy too so you never really got too overheated. We were able to lay out all day long without enduring unbearable heat. 4) The ocean! I am totally freaked by the oceans in New Jersey. Sharks, strong waves, dirty water, you get the point... The ocean in Aruba was so blue and the temperature was pretty ideal. I felt so comfortable in the water that I even went snorkeling for my first time ever.

Highlights of the trip were: having our family vacation with the boyfriends. We had never all gone away together before so this was a big step and we had so much fun doing it. To say “thanks” we were able to treat my mom to a massage at the hotel. Also, not having a care in the world for just a few days, the adventure activities (snorkeling and ATVing), being upgraded to business class on the flights there and back, my buffet obsession and of course the daily beach and pool lounging.

I would definitely go to Aruba again and recommend you all to go as well. The one thing I would do differently if I went back again is stay at a regular hotel verse an all-inclusive. While, I loved that with the all-inclusive you didn’t have to plan much of anything, I’d like the opportunity to experience the culture, food and surroundings of Aruba a little more- plus get some stiffer drinks!

Aruba Ariba baby!
