It’s always so fun and exciting to mix your look up a little bit and while I am unwilling to cut my hair short, I’ve always enjoyed playing around with the color a little bit.
In high school I thought it’d be a good idea to dye my hair black, dark brown and in middle school I even dyed a strand at the bottom magenta.. Yes magenta! My Jewish mother almost had a heart attack.
The past 3-4 years I have been doing blonde balayage highlights that start around my cheek and go down to my ends. What is balayage? Well Google defines it as a technique for highlighting the hair in which the dye is painted on in such a way as to create a graduated, natural-looking effect. I really like to start my highlights near my cheek/ chin and not my roots because I want a blonde look without being over the top unnatural. Also, because then I can get them done as often as I would like without the worry of my roots looking too dark. I only get them once a year during the Spring time so that my hair is lighter into the Summer.
I used to get the highlights a darker blonde but recently I’ve amped up the blondeness. People have always said blondes have more fun and after coming as close to blonde as I probably ever will… I have to say I agree!
I can’t help but feel more sassy, sexy and just a little bit more fun when I have my fresh blonde highlights going on. You know when you get a new haircut and you can’t help but flirt with yourself in the mirror? Well, it’s like that on steroids!
I most recently got my highlights done by Tyger at Studio 34 salon in NYC. These highlights can be a little pricey about $150-$200 or so (depending on the length of your hair) but I think it’s worth it. And like I said, you can get them as often as you’d like.
